A Flash of Fashion & Style

Frock of the Week: Floral print Audrey dress – Lindy Bop

This week I am featuring a lovely floral print Audrey dress from Lindy Bop. Not only does this dress have a gorgeous colourful print and classic pinup style, it is also very budget friendly! Lindy Bop has a huge range of gorgeous print swing dresses, and a rainbow of petticoats and beautiful long sleeved shrugs to match. A great way to add some colour to your wardrobe without breaking the bank!

This dress has so many colours to pull out in accessories! I have styled this dress 2 ways – first with bright bold colours…choose one to coordinate all of your accessories, or go for a rainbow of colour!

Lindy Bop bold floral set

For a more classic look, the bright floral print stands very well on it’s own and is lovely with cream and pastel colours and some classy vintage pearls!

My Outfits

I am growing out the red in my hair to go back to blonde… as fun as being a redhead has been I miss being a blonde! Since it isn’t very pretty, I haven’t been very motivated to style it too much, and am going to be wearing many many headscarves for a while!

Instagram of the Week: @missbettydoll

This fabulous pinup mama hails from Texas but calls Melbourne home. Her posts often feature her adorable daughter… in perfectly coordinated pinup style with her beautiful mama, too cute! I love this lady’s colourful and polished style and also enjoy reading her blog! She has some great advice for other pinup mamas as well as fashion and beauty tips and reviews. Her writing is honest, witty and intelligent, you can’t help but be utterly charmed! The Weekly Vintage Addict Diary: 18 September 2015

This week’s Vintage Addict Diary, for your viewing pleasure! Yay for Friiiiday!

My Week

This week I got the exciting news that I had won $1000 of shopping vouchers from St Lukes Westfield! I often enter draws, because who knows right!? So very exciting! Especially as budget has been tight lately! So I treated myself to some shoes…some yummy Antipodes skincare (as my face has been super dry and itchy this winter)… and the rest is saved for more practical things for the family.

IMG_20150917_171135

The warming weather and longer days have definitely made a noticeable improvement to my state of mind!

So as well as finishing off projects (well making an attempt anyway!) I have been getting back into my crafty pottering. I am experimenting with making cast resin jewellery (mostly all I’ve made is a mess) and I always love a good visit to Spotlight to see if anything inspires me!

I made these cute little brooches – a 5 minute craft project – with some iron on badges, stiff felt and brooch backs. I love do love a project with nearly instant gratification haha!IMG_20150918_071309

Finally finding a source of pantihose that don’t cost $20 a pair yet still look natural and silky smooth! Not those ones at the supermarket in mulitpacks that I would only use to put over my face for a bank robbery. And maybe not even then. Thanks Kmart – $7 for the win!

Still tasty and great if you are driving… or if like me you just can’t say no to another!

That nice feeling … that re-arranging a room gives you! I like to change things in our living area with the change of season.

Getting things in the post… I don’t think that thrill ever gets old!

Frock of the Week: 1950s Novelty Print from Geronimo Vintage (Etsy)

This week I am featuring a divine vintage number! This Etsy seller has some truly amazing pieces, follow her on Instagram to see what’s new! This is one I have been drooling over…

il_570xN.789209905_pbo8

“Vintage 1953 Novelty Print Sundress Made of Associated American Artists (AAA) Fabric & Fine Art Russian Painter / Muralist Anton Refregier.
Many of Anton Refregier’s Signed Oil Panting’s Have Sold for Hundreds to Thousands of Dollars & His Most Famous Work is the Mural Project the “History of San Francisco” Which is located at San Francisco’s Rincon Center”

What I love about vintage is how it blurs the line between art and fashion! This truly is a piece of art, and of history. Alas it is tiny, and slightly out of my price range. But dreams are free, and so is what I call “dress appreciation” (aka online stalking of lusted after items I can not afford 😉 )

Instagram of the Week: @evita_kedavra

I was super excited to discover this incredible Newcastle, Australia based pinup on Instagram! This lady’s vintage hair and makeup is seriously on point! Hair goals forever…

Not to mention she has fabulous outfits, and makes many of her clothes herself! I was pleased to discover Miss Evita Kevadra has also started a blog, The Lady Table, where she shares style, fashion and reviews and well as touching on more personal issues such as infertility, an honesty I greatly admire. I look forward to being blown away by more pinup beauty and fashion goodness and reading more of what this inspiring lady has to say on her blog!

Events

This weekend is just crammed with events on the vintage calendar! It’s all happening on Saturday in Hamilton, with the opening of vintage boutique 19 Black, followed by the Classics Museum Calendar Launch event. With market stalls, pamper parlour and some awesome live entertainment it’s going to be a fantastic event!

In Auckland, also on Saturday night (oh how I wish I could clone myself sometimes!) is the launch party for the Great NZ Pinup Calendar by Zandy J Photography at Galatos. My lovely friend Miss Charlotte Cake is MCing too!

Another good one to get along to on Saturday night is the Las Vegas Grind DJ Strip Review. It’s sad days for this K Rd icon of sleaze and rock n roll … which is closing it’s doors after more than 40 years. Next weekend we say a final farewell with the Last Strip featuring Labretta Suede and the Motel 6, don’t miss out, tickets here! I will save my memorial lament until then… since this is supposed to be brief!

Instead of a Frock of the Week, this week I just can’t get enough of the mid century novelty print skirts from The Oblong Box Shop! Although I don’t have one myself yet, I have been drooling over some stylish ladies rocking these on Instagram lately! They are so vibrant, incredibly detailed and fun… and are getting great reviews for quality and fit also. Definitely on my wish list, I don’t know how I would choose though!

For all the details, follow my Instagram account! I wasn’t very good at getting outfit photos this week, I need to up my selfie game since my 5 year old photographer isn’t always willing or available 😉

Today I did beehive hairstyle using Pinup Doll Ashley Marie’s YouTube tutorial. I think it was my best beehive yet! Link here. So. Much. Teasing.

Instagram of the Week: @diablorose

Serious hair inspiration! This UK based hairdresser and pinup model posts pictures of how she styles daily her own gorgeous pink and purple locks, as well as looks on her clients. So. Much. Pretty. She has some great colourful outfits too! This inspiring lady is also doing her bit for charity, selling cute t-shirts to support the Little Princess Trust – which buys wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer. Awesome stuff!

Events

Just last night I headed along to the AOK Fashion Event on K Rd, despite the very depressing weather! There wasn’t quite a street fair atmosphere, which wasn’t too surprising due to the fact it was hosing down with rain! But Miss 5 and I enjoyed some Sal’s pizza and caught Nick Von K’s fashion show along the K Rd sidewalk … spacemen, all over sparkly silver people, fairy lit alien people… all holding giant sized versions of his latest jewellery range. Very cool. And, probably not that unusual for K Rd anyway…

I ran into many lovely people and stylishly dressed ladies and gents – some who entered in Rita Sue’s best dressed competition. I picked up a couple of headscarves (new and vintage!), some old classic kids books and an ancient Mae West biography. Juliet declared the evening a success. I agree!

I am super excited about the latest Exotica themes issue of Glory Days magazine coming out very soon! Click on the picture to pre-order a copy, or even better, subscribe and get a Dermalogica SkinPerfect Primer free… yes please! How beautiful is the cover design too??

Today I am going to check out the Home Show! And then a weekend of working around the house… how glamorous!

Thought of the Week

This is for the ladies who iron as much as I do… which is… one time I used the iron to get wax off the carpet, does that count?

Organising your Pinup products: Some simple ideas

Organising and cleaning out hair and makeup products is something I thought I wasn’t TOO horrible at. But chaos seems to have snuck up on me and I decided it was high time have a quick clean out  – and think of better ways to store and access my most used products.

I had a quick look at Pinterest for inspiration and then made a trip to my local Kmart41810026-f-1. I picked up a variety of these very useful clear plastic storage boxes and a couple of plastic “storage turntables” – all $10 or less. I didn’t want to spend much time or money.
42108078-tf-1I threw out any old or empty products and organised what was left… I have A LOT of products… but I use them all!

I dislike a cluttered bathroom bench, so all of my makeup used to be stored in the vanity drawers, and hair products and brushes in the cupboards. However, despite my best intentions, everything tends to get thrown in and messy, and I know I could save time if I didn’t have to search for each item!

I put all of my hair products on the storage turntable in the cupboard which was so simple and worked brilliantly! Now I can access each product without taking all of them out.
I used another stacking organiser to separate my different sectioning and hair clips (something else which is usually a mess!).

12007104_10153183810201973_860981050_n

Hairbrushes, combs and cosmetic brushes have a new easily accessible home on a second storage turntable on the bench. I added a few pretty things too, and a cute cotton bud container from Kmart.12007302_10153183810186973_1696168589_nUnless I am going to a special occasion or doing a photoshoot, I tend to wear the same makeup most days. I took out all the the products I use for my everyday look and sorted them into a stacking cube organiser, also on the bathroom bench.

And here is what the bench looks like… I think the time saved by having everything at hand will outweigh the sacrifice in bench space!

11998415_10153182749406973_59350247_n

All of my lesser used makeup products and other cosmetics live in the drawers (Yes, my husband gets one of them!). I still need to sort out the scary mess in the under sink cupboard, but for someone who avoids this type of thing like the plague… it was surprisingly painless and only took around an hour!

Here are some other simple ideas!

  • Use a wine rack to store hairspray bottles
  • Look at your local stationery store – desk organisers work great for makeup too!
  • Use a magnetic strip on the wall to keep bobby pins handy
  • Stack cake stands to make pretty displays for makeup, cosmetics or jewellery
  • Decorate different sized jars and group together to make pretty storage for makeup brushes and pencils

I hope you find some of these ideas useful! Happy Organising!

Lorelei xx

The Vintage Addict Diary: 4 September 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of Vintage Addict Diary… a new pick’n’mix vintage lifestyle, events and fashion!

My Week

It has been quite a social week for Miss Lorelei! Some fantastic events and lovely catch ups with friends – old and new. Kicking off with the NZ 2nd Beard & Moustache Competition – which was so much fun! Over 40 men vied for the coveted trophy – a creation by by Martin “Robot-Man” Horspool, and what a line up! Uniformed beards, Fisherman beards, Braided beards, 70s mo’s…  Santa himself made an appearance. Even the ladies (including me, in a very sexy pink handlebar number) got up on stage. An epic night which deserves a full write up, but alas I am forcing myself to make these snippets snappy!

A Fine Vintage

Sunday was a girls outing with my daughter to the Vintage Textile Fair. As usual it was a fantastic array of vintage goodies – from vintage fabrics and clothing to every kind of accessory you could imagine. One of my favourite stalls was “A Fine Vintage” (pictured)… absolutely beautiful things arranged artfully by colour into gorgeous tableaux. We mostly just browsed and admired but I did pick up a couple of bargains – a cute 60s baby pink peignor set (which reminds me of the sleepover scene in Grease!) and a number of pretty vintage scarves.

VV_kieraI adore  everything about this dress! The fruit print of strawberries and apples is divine and I love the vintage feel of the colour palette. This is a dress that is perfect for accessorizing! The details are lovely with a collar and buttoned shirt front and matching red belt.

It is available from Unique Vintage (US) or directly from Voodoo Vixen (UK).

There is also a wiggle skirt in the same fabric and a coordinating cardigan with embroidery front and back (also available in plus size)… too cute!
